Community use

The Grammar is opening its doors for community use, offering a range of flexible spaces available to hire for local groups, organisations and activities. Located in the heart of Heanor, this historic building provides a welcoming setting for meetings, events and community activities.

Facilities include the historic Main Hall and a Meeting Room, available to book individually or together, with access to kitchen facilities.

About the Main Hall

The Main Hall is a magnificent original feature of the former school, retaining its historic character with original windows that flood the space with natural light. Its generous proportions and open layout make it an ideal setting for events, performances and large gatherings. The hall can accommodate between 150 and 300 people, depending on furniture and layout requirements.

About the Meeting Room

The Meeting Room is a modern, high-quality space with a contemporary finish and stylish panelling, offering a comfortable and professional setting for a wide range of uses. Ideal for meetings, workshops and community group sessions, it provides a more intimate alternative to the Main Hall while still offering flexibility in layout. The room can accommodate between 40 and 80 people, depending on furniture and seating requirements (example layout shown in photo).

Additional facilities

Whether you are booking the Main Hall or the Meeting Room, you will have access to shared use of the adjoining kitchen facilities. Those who book both the Main Hall and Meeting Room together will have exclusive use of the kitchen.

The building is equipped with toilet facilities, including accessible toilets and a shower room, to support a wide range of users and activities.

Pay and display car parking is available on site, including designated accessible parking spaces. Additional car parking is available nearby at Ilkeston Road and Wilmot Street.

Facilities at The Grammar can be hired during the times below:

Operational hours of indoor facilities

Monday – Thursday: 0700 – 2200 hours

Friday and Saturday: 0700 – 2300 hours

Sundays: 0800 – 2200 hours



Prices

Hourly rates

Main Hall: £50 per hour (£41.67+VAT), including shared access to the adjoining kitchen facilities.

Meeting Room: £25 per hour (£20.83+VAT), including shared access to the adjoining kitchen facilities.

Main Hall and Meeting Room: £75 per hour (£62.50+VAT) with exclusive access to the adjoined kitchen facilities.

For bookings 6 hours or longer

Day hire rate of the Main Hall: £250 (£208.33+VAT), including shared access to the adjoining kitchen facilities.

Day hire rate of the Meeting Room: £125 (£104.17+VAT), including shared access to the adjoining kitchen facilities.

Day hire rate of the Main Hall and Meeting Room: with exclusive access to the adjoined kitchen facilities £375 (£312.50+VAT).

Please note that all bookings will need to be for a minimum duration of at least a 2 hour period and hirers would need to include set up and break down of the room within their booking period.

Refreshments - A tea urn with tea, coffee, cups and saucers can be provided at an additional charge of £1.10 per person (£0.92+VAT). Hirers are welcome to bring their own refreshments should they prefer.

If you’re ready to make a provisional booking, please complete our online booking enquiry form. Bookings will be taken from Monday 2 February 2026. You may complete this form now, but requests must be for dates from this point onwards.
