Approach
Throughout the design and restoration process, GSS architects and project officers have liaised with conservation officers to ensure the building can be restored to a high standard while retaining as many features as possible. When the building was first erected, single panes of glass and large boilers powered by coal were normal. As an example, the windows will look visually the same as the original but will have a much higher U-value (which is how thermal transmittance is measured). Air source heating will be used, and modern facilities such as Fibre to the premises will be installed.

The renovation phase is now complete, and Amber Valley Borough Council received back possession of The Grammar during the week commencing 11 August 2025. Before that, we took a series of photographs to showcase the completed restoration. View photo album of completed restoration
